On June 13th HackdeOverheid will focus on building prototypes or websites that improve governmental services and address political transparency, bringing passion and frustration of eager developers who already know what’s possible on the web across to the government. Together with Vincent Lindeboom, Lex Slaghuis and James Burke we are happy to organize this one-day event. By pressure cooking ‘good practices’ HackdeOverheid makes a statement for the importance of releasing more ‘raw open data’ by the government.
There have been no similar events in the Netherlands like HackdeOverheid. The recently held Ambtenaren 2.0 workshop on the importance op OpenData addressed the basic principles of open data to civil servants. HackdeOverheid will not only bring both civil servants and hackers together, but also create concrete and tangible results through usable prototypes. Through prototyping HackdeOverheid will show the government the value and possibilities of raw datasharing. The event will demonstrate that OpenData is needed for improving governmental services and will address that data from the government is not very open as possible information retrieval techniques will include data harvesting and website scraping.
